Cultural Values
Initiative
“The ability to assess and initiate things independently” or “The power or opportunity to act or take charge before others do” (Oxford Dictionary).
At PHLI we value people who see something that needs to be done and do it. It is easy to react and complain, it is difficult to do something about it. Peter Steinke puts it this way in his book Uproar,
The easiest thing is to react. The second easiest thing is to respond. But the hardest thing is to initiate. Reacting is intuitive and instinctive…Responding is…thoughtful action. But both pale in comparison to initiative. Initiating is really and truly difficult, and that’s what leaders do.
Initiative involves risk and courage. Taking the initiative may involve failure, but it will also move people the quickest.
PHLI will strive to have a culture of people who initiate. This will begin with the leadership and be modeled for the students.
Quality
“The standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind; the degree of excellence of something” (Oxford Dictionary).
PHLI wants to be a school of excellence. We will strive to produce quality in our academics, our relationships, and our love for God. This will involve time scheduled for academics, relationships, and study of the Bible.
Knowledge
“Facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject” (Oxford Dictionary).
PHLI aims to give the students a holistic education. This does not simply mean academic knowledge, but also knowledge in the areas of finance, leadership, and identity.
